Shin guards: check coverage and compatibility with your kit
A small-looking guard in a professional match is not a sizing recommendation for your own game.

Begin with the requirement
IFAB identifies shin guards as compulsory equipment and places responsibility on players to use suitable size and material for reasonable protection. They must be covered by socks. Your own competition may provide additional equipment instructions, so check those before purchasing.
Try the complete combination
Evaluate the guard with the socks and footwear you plan to wear. Read the maker’s size guidance and inspect how the guard stays in place when you move. A product that fits in your hand may feel very different under a sock.
Do not copy a professional player’s apparent guard size from a photograph. The image may not show the whole product, and another player’s choice does not establish what is appropriate for you.
Keep the decision practical
Check cleaning instructions, the included sleeves or fastenings and whether replacement parts are sold separately. Save the model and size so replacing a worn item does not require starting the search from memory.
